Do you know that feeling when the alarm rings in the early hours of the morning so you can get your day started, but you turn to the other side of the bed and put the sleep in gear 5??? Oh Yeah, I got you there…. As we go through life daily, the feeling of weariness/ tiredness or even frustration may come up and that may slow our pace or want us to give up totally. At that point is when you need to motivate yourself to get up, and keep going. In the face of the pandemic, I know a lot of people are going through a really tough time; there’s no other time than now to be self motivated.
Today, I will be sharing on how to be and remain self motivated. These are practical steps that work for me, and I believe they will help you too. First on my list is:
Optimism: You must have read in most of my posts about me being very optimistic. I consciously focus on the positive sides of everything, even in pain. That’s what you should do. Be conscious of your thoughts, actions and feelings. Optimism makes it easy to make positive confessions, and with this, you can move mountains. Say something good to yourself in your most vulnerable state, be in control and use your thoughts and good words to attract solutions to your way. For me, simply saying ‘everything will be fine’ changes the look of the situation and that makes it easy to keep going.
Music: I love to listen to music that lifts my soul high. I listen to all genres of music, from gospel to hip-hop, R ‘n’ B, to inspirational and all. It depends on my mood. Sometimes, all I want to do is dance and other times, I just want to be with my pen and jotter, listening to inspirational songs. No matter how tough the situation may be, I get motivated listening to good music.
Focus on your utmost goal: if you have a target or an appointment, or something you’re looking forward to that is dear to your heart, you won’t have to wait for the alarm before you get out of bed to pursue it. Your goal will get you out. This is not the story of the mind is willing but the body is weak, the body must not be weak (on a lighter note). My focus is always on my end goals ‘to be great, a force to reckon with, and be a blessing to my generation and generations yet unborn’. This keeps me motivated and energized. So no matter how terrible, daring or scary a situation may be, I consciously follow the path that leads to greatness. As an entrepreneur, I often joke with my husband that, “if I no work, I no chop and I am not expecting a salary from anybody”. If I have to make an urgent supply for the next day, I may probably just sleep for two hours and work all through the night. I hardly use alarm, the consciousness of the mind to meet up gets me out of bed to work. In summary, personal goals serve as a motivation.
Good company: Who are your associates? Who are the people you mingle with? What do they stand for, what are their values? Do they just accept life as it comes, or they thrive for excellence? This, in a long way, will serve as your daily motivation. This also has to do with those you follow on social media, as a result of you following them; you see their posts and activities. If you are not mindful, you wouldn’t know how much of these impact your life. In this era of covid-19, most people spend a longer time on social media than usual. I consciously choose my friend and while on social media, I’m conscious of the content I take in. I try my best to sieve through and pay attention to posts that elevate and make me want to achieve my goals. The key word here is consciousness. You have to be deliberate about your life; you must put in efforts to be successful and attract the good that you truly desire. Read and watch videos that remind and make you want to achieve your goal. Rather than you being envious or jealous about a friend/ colleague’s post, let it serve as a morale booster to achieving your set goal. Good company (online or offline) serves as a daily motivation.
Above all, be true to yourself, be real, and don’t put yourself under unnecessary pressure, ALL WILL BE FINE.
