One of the things that struck my heart many years ago on giving was when I read somewhere in the bible that “There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty”. I was probably a teenager then but somehow, it’s among the life principles that I have held on to up till date, tested and trusted. I was thinking, how can somebody be dashing out things and yet be increasing in wealth but the one that withholds will get even broke??? Secret of life. You gain liberty the moment you catch it!
I can boldly say this giving nature is one of the reasons starting and running The Jewel Empowerment Foundation became easy. Giving opens doors. As a matter of fact, I give the most when I am in need the most; somehow I see this principle play out right before my very eyes, and I never seize to be amazed. It works. You know that popular saying that ‘givers never lack’, I’m here to let you know today that it works, truly, givers never lack!
Giving is letting go of something and the moment you let that thing go, you become a master of it. Some years back, when I started my acting career and started making some money, I would drop my first job pay of the year as my first fruit to the church. And in the course of the year, when I get a higher pay than my previous acting gig, I drop all into the offering basket titled as my first fruit. See, I am not here to argue on church giving, tithes, offering or whatsoever; I am here to let you know that the moment you can give away something valuable, you gain higher potential to make numerous times of that thing. I gave out thousands of Naira that meant like the whole world to me, I was probably 20 or 21 and this money was like gosh!…. But I saw myself increasing in capacity and gaining more grounds with my networks, associations and I was making more, that I didn’t feel like it was a big deal owing such an amount of money. And as a young girl, I gained more self worth, it was very difficult to entice me with material things, I saw myself far above that and it gave me the charisma that I needed.
Most of the project executed by The Empowerment Foundation has been self sponsored but as time goes on, families, friends and some concerned Nigerians saw the genuine intentions and they were glad to become a part of it. For every kobo I have used to touch someone’s life, God in His infinite mercy has blessed me immeasurable. Some blessings come in the form of inspiration and/or direction; something may just strike my heart to make that call, or send that message or show up somewhere and booom! It becomes a hit! And I’m like thank you Lord!! It is not by my power, it is of the Lord that showeth mercy. Do you remember that part of the bible that says “Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
Sometimes, all you have to give is a smile, a warm hug, your precious time or a listening ear. It’s not all about material things. Being there for someone during their down time, may just be all they need. The table may turn anytime and you may be in need too, I assure you that it will not take time before your own needs are met. Giving hastens our silent prayers to be answered; it gives us courage to face tomorrow, believing that God is in control. Even when you’re going through a rough time, the good you do and the lives you touch will make ways for you. Giving brings some kind of joy to your life, when you see that your action has put a smile on someone’s face; isn’t that great? Money can’t buy that feeling, it comes from within and your soul is elevated. Why not cultivate that habit of giving and see how transformed your life would be… I am a living testimony!
